What I Saw
I saw the prep, the youth hockey mornings, the tired parents, their coaches, dentists, doctors.
I saw their fans, professional designers, sponsors, wives, girlfriends, children. I saw Johnny hockey.
I saw the coronas and the messages Quinn had to proofread for Jack. I took a picture of this Hughes St sign in Cape May, NJ in 2023. I was visiting the town for my cousins wedding at the inn. Beautiful, to say the least. It’s the journey. Auston Matthews sipping his pilsner goggles on not knowing he’s going to take a cheap shot and end his season in a month. Breaks my heart. Not our will. We don’t quit on bad days. The journey. Not the destination, the folks you bring with you along the way. You probably saw a game winning goal for a country. Gold medals.
I saw all the small wins for each and every one of those players and their tribes. It takes a village. Go with grace.
